Teklehaimanot General Hospital has officially been achieved the prestigious SafeCare Level 5 Certification, making it the very first healthcare facility in the country to reach this level since the SafeCare program was introduced in Ethiopia.

The official recognition took place during a half-day workshop hosted by SafeCare Ethiopia on October 8, 2026, under the theme “Advancing Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety in Ethiopia: From Commitment to Quality Champion.”

The event opened with remarks from Mr. Nesredin Nursebo, Healthcare Quality Lead at the FDRE Ministry of Health, followed by an address from Dr. Amare Deribew, Project Lead of SafeCare Ethiopia.

A vibrant panel discussion followed, bringing together key representatives from regulatory bodies, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and the Ethiopian Healthcare Federation. The discussion explored opportunities to strengthen healthcare quality and patient safety through the implementation of national and international quality and safety standards, as a critical foundation for Ethiopia’s ambition to become a regional medical tourism hub.

This core message highlighted that systematic performance measurement is essential for identifying gaps, driving continuous improvement, building public trust, and positioning Ethiopia as a trusted destination for safe, world-class healthcare. It also featured updates on ongoing and completed initiatives by the Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Healthcare Federation.

The workshop concluded with the official recognition of Teklehaimanot General Hospital for achieving 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝟓 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Teklehaimanot has been a pioneer by joining the SafeCare program at its launch and earned a Level 4 certification on its initial assessment. Through months of consistent dedication, rigorous self-assessments, independent assessment & re-assessment, implementation of improvement actions, and continuous follow-up and support, it has successfully elevated its standard to Level 5.
