SafeCare Ethiopia in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Healthcare Federation (EHF) hosted a high-level national workshop on June 13, 2026. Centered on healthcare quality, patient safety, and accreditation readiness, the event convened key stakeholders to align clinical standards with national development goals.

The forum brought together leaders from public and private health facilities, regulatory bodies, quality experts, and media representatives to address a critical industry question: “What practical approaches can our health facilities adopt to strengthen healthcare quality and patient safety while accelerating their readiness for accreditation?”

Discussions underlined a unified consensus; achieving formal accreditation requires moving beyond mere good intentions. It demands strong, hospital-wide quality management systems anchored in continuous improvement and verified through external quality assurance frameworks.

Opening the workshop, Dr. Markos Feleke, CEO of ABH Partners and President of the Ethiopian Healthcare Federation, emphasized the vital partnership between the EHF and the Ministry of Health, specifically highlighting the Health System Innovation & Quality Lead Executive Office. He noted that implementing the SafeCare model plays a foundational role in accelerating national accreditation processes while positioning Ethiopia with the potential to emerge as a leading medical tourism hub in East Africa.

Dr. Abas Hassen, Lead Executive Officer for Health System Innovation and Quality at the Ministry of Health, outlined the government's strategic vision. He stressed that early adopters of structured quality frameworks secure a distinct advantage, emphasizing that because the government cannot individually guide every facility, institutions must take full ownership of their quality journeys by investing in systematic tools and external certification programs.

Presentations highlighted the SafeCare Program as an actionable, structured solution enabling hospitals to evaluate their quality performance, isolate and resolve critical operational gaps, and steadily build accreditation readiness.

Participating hospitals shared practical implementation insights, illustrating how the SafeCare methodology successfully embeds a culture of safety across diverse departments and deepens leadership engagement in continuous quality enhancement.

The workshop concluded in a special recognition ceremony celebrating six private health institutions as Early Adopter Facilities under the SafeCare Quality Program. These facilities were honored for their pioneering commitment to advancing clinical quality, patient safety, and systematic accreditation preparedness:
