Dr. Amare Deribew has more than 20 years of experience in leadership, programs, resource mobilization, research and publications. He is currently, ABH’s technical Director. He provides technical guidance and leadership on programs, research, training and postgraduate programs. Amare has a medical degree and a Masters degree in epidemiology from Jimma University in Ethiopia. He has also a PhD in Medical Science with a focus on HIV and Tuberculosis from Antwerp University in Belgium.

Prior to joining ABH, Amare was the Country Director at Nutrition International where he provided overall leadership and guidance on maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition programs in Ethiopia between 2017 and 2023. He also worked at International Medical Corps in Sudan and Sierra Leone as a program Director and he directed humanitarian and development Health and nutrition Programs of IMC. Dr. Amare also worked as an Epidemiologist with Oxford University and the KEMRI Welcome Trust research program in Kenya and as associate professor of Epidemiology in Jimma University. He has also worked as a public health consultant with the World Health Organization and other CSOs in Ethiopia. Amare is an honorary associate Professor at St. Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College, Jimma and Bahir Dar Universities. He published more than 110 articles in international Journals. Dr. Amare received the gold medal award as a senior public health researcher from the Ethiopian Public Health Association in 2019. He is the lifetime member of EPHA and EMA.
