Prof. Yigzaw Kebede, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health with more than 30 years of experience in health services, university teaching, research, academic leadership, and consultancy. He began his professional career as a general practitioner and, after completing his Master of Public Health (MPH), joined the Gondar College of Medical Sciences as an instructor of Epidemiology, Global Health, and Research Methods.
Throughout his academic career, Prof. Yigzaw has made significant contributions to teaching, research, and postgraduate education. He has published 75 articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals and has advised numerous master's and PhD students. His research expertise encompasses both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. He has also served as an external examiner for undergraduate, master's, and PhD students and contributed to the development of five teaching materials in collaboration with instructors from universities across Ethiopia.
Prof. Yigzaw has held several senior academic and institutional leadership positions at the University of Gondar, including Department Head, Vice President for Administration, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and President of the University. He also served as Coordinator of the Dabat Research Center and Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences.
His professional experience extends to health research, program evaluation, and consultancy. Before joining ABH Partners PLC as a permanent staff member in December 2022, he worked with the organization on a contractual basis on several projects, primarily in the health sector. He also led customer satisfaction and Net Promoter Score (NPS) surveys for Dashen Bank, which were conducted by ABH Partners PLC. In most of the surveys and evaluations undertaken by ABH Partners PLC, he served as the team leader, overseeing the planning, coordination, and implementation of the assignments.
Prof. Yigzaw has received awards in recognition of his professional contributions. In 2010, he was recognized by the University of Gondar for his significant contributions to the teaching-learning process and academic research addressing complex community and public health problems. In 2017, he received an award from the Ethiopian Public Health Association for outstanding performance in the Senior Public Health Service category.
Since December 2022, Prof. Yigzaw Kebede has served as Director of Research, Evaluation, and Consultancy at ABH Partners PLC. In this role, he leads research, evaluation, and consultancy activities and provides expertise in public health, research methodology, program evaluation, and institutional development.
