Our evaluation and research program are carefully crafted to generate actionable insights that support effective governance, strategic planning, and the development of evidence-based policies.

Areas of Focus

ABH’s Research, Evaluation, and Consultancy Unit delivers services across diverse fields, with a primary focus on addressing major public health challenges and priority health programs in Ethiopia. These efforts are aligned with the Health Sector Transformation Plan II (HSTP-II) and the Health Policy of Ethiopia. In the health sector, the key focus areas include:

Maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health (MNCAH) including early childhood development and child survival programs.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) particularly the preventive, promotive, and curative aspects of the major NCDs
Nutrition and food security including humanitarian and development nutrition programs
Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as malaria, TB, HIV, and other epidemic-prone diseases. ABH promotes the One Health Approach to prevent and control public health emergencies and epidemics
Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) which is the major determinant of morbidity.
Digital health and data for action will be cross-cutting for ABH’s research.

We design different studies, surveys, and evaluations – Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed Methods Studies/ Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Studies / Cross-Sectional and Cohort studies

We develop research tools, pretest and translate into local languages
We recruit, train, deploy, and supervise field data collectors
We store and organize data, conduct primary and secondary quantitative and qualitative data analysis using software, and interpret and write report
We prepare policy and advocacy briefs, documentation, and dissemination of Best Practices, Lessons Learned. We organize and manage dissemination workshops and events.

We design and monitor Processes, Compliance, Quality, Context, Beneficiary, Financial, Organizational, and Results using different tools and deploying various experts in fields as per the scope of work desired by the client.

We develop and contextualize guidelines and manuals by integrating accepted and tested local knowledge with international standard and practice for use at national, regional and local level in various technical areas, that include health, education, nutrition, social and behavioral sciences, gender and economic and development fields.

ABH conducts innovative implementation research, including clinical trials, to provide evidence that helps policymakers make timely, informed decisions. Their work focuses on improving healthcare quality by identifying effective strategies and optimizing health system performance, particularly in resource-limited settings. ABH bridges the gap between scientific evidence and real-world application to drive better health outcomes.
