Speech by His Excellency Dr. Kaba Urgessa , State Minister of Education of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Jimma University is also in Addis Ababa Committed to Produce World Class Business and Public Health Leaders.


January 11, 2013, Addis Ababa- One of the biggest public universities of the nation, Jimma University, is no more limited to its traditional home town of Jimma for its services- proving Jimma is a brand rather than a location. The university has launched a collaborated graduate level training programs in Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the premises of ABH Services Plc, a private consultancy and research company affiliated to Jimma University, located on Bole Road, Addis Ababa,.

The program was launched at Sheraton Addis Hotel in the H. E Dr. Kaba Urgessa, State Minister of Education and member of the Board of Governors of Jimma University, other high ranking government officials, invited guests and Jimma University leadership. Dr. Fikre Lemessa, President of Jimma Universiy and Dr. Markos Feleke, Executive Director ABH Services Plc signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The two institutions have launched the program to increase access to graduate level training and address the high demand of professionals trained in both areas at graduate level. The partnership is also believed to promote an exemplary public-private partnership in the area.



The program will offer a unique opportunity for those living and/or working in Addis to pursue their further study at Jimma University without necessarily traveling to Jimma. While the current program is limited to MPH and MBA degree programs, it’s anticipated that the program will expand to include other areas and tracks including PHD programs.

According to the MoU the two institutions signed, Jimma University will lead the program using its current curriculum and offer the degree to graduates, while ABH will be running the training center furnished by a state-of-the-art electronic library and class room facilities and staff to manage the program. The two parties are also considering the engagement of US based universities in the program while currently the faculty at Jimma University will be offering courses.
